Review: Castles in the Air: Misadventures of a Profession

Castles in the Air: Misadventures of a Profession by Sangeet Sharma
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Blurb -

Laughter is said to be the best elixir and the book is a satire on architecture written by one who knows the bricks and concrete of the profession by heart.

The author, an architect himself, delves into the journey of a professional practice. The book is witty with acerbic humor. Word by word, sentence by sentence, page by page, every scene unfolds like a screenplay, leaving the reader amazed with the brutalities of life in architecture, and life itself.

‘Castles in the Air’ is the honest affirmation of an architect’s voice and the connection with the reader is immediate.

My views -

Each and every work has to be learn from its own kind of way, not everything is go and do it just like that. Likewise, "Castles in the Air" by Sangeet Sharma is one of the novel which says more about a particular proffesion and their way of achieving that peek of proffesion.

Castles in the Air mostly talks about architecture's nooks and crannies in funny and sarcastic way. I liked the way of narration which is more helpful to move along the flow. The way author started from NATA examination conducted as entrance exam to joining architect and moving towards first classes, new college environment, new friends, hostels, canteen, ragging, assignments, last minute submissions, moreover designing as an engineering I can perfectly able to understand the designing hurdles. Also the book had given me a new perspective towards architecture.

I had not seen much loop holes but the characterization are not solid, some characters are came from air and vanished out in air. Which could be corrected. Moreover this novel given me such a relief time and more laughing moments with its humorous dialogues.

Overall, Castles in the Air would be a great book to pick and read for relaxation and knowing much more new things about architecture and architect's life.
